Publié dans Exhibitions & Museums le

The Musée des Arts et Métiers (Museum of Arts and Crafts) presents the exhibition called Le Concours Lépine until October 13th, 2019. This is a photographic retrospective dedicated to the inventions that won acclaim in the competition of the same name from the 30s to the 60s. The Hotel Relais du Marais recommends this fascinating exhibition!

Since 1901, this competition has changed lives

From ballpoint pens to folding bicycles, and from typewriters, periscopes, amphibious vehicles and toasters to flying cars, there have been countless inventions unveiled at the Concours Lépine. Taking place every year during the Foire de Paris, since its beginnings in 1901 the competition provided a launching platform for innovations that became a part of everyday life.

The Concours Lépine is open to everyone, regardless of qualifications or professional status. It’s all a matter of vision, inspiration, talent and creativity Budding or seasoned inventors present their latest ideas in the hope of winning the coveted prize and making their mark on the world.

Brilliant, and sometimes crazy, ideas from the 30s to the 60s...

The Musée des Arts et Métiers presents a retrospective of Concours Lépine entries from the 30s to the 60s as part of its temporary exhibitions programme. Drawn from the archives of the Gamma-Rapho agency, these period photographs bear witness to the inventiveness of past generations and the ceaseless creativity of the human brain. Fun, sometimes crazy and unexpected, but often indispensable, these inventions that long predate the connected world of today have transformed many lives over the years. Among them are the world’s first artificial heart, invented in 1937, the first contact lenses dating from 1948, and a device designed to detect buried people that was introduced in 1964. Discover them all at the Musée des Arts et Métiers...
