An art fair and the magic of Christmas in Paris

Paris offers many joys. The monuments, museums, galleries and theatres number among them, of course. In December, Paris offers an unmissable event for art lovers; the Salon des Beaux-Arts. And you can also make the most of the run-up to the festive season with a visit to the Champs-Élysées Christmas market.

A major event in contemporary art

Highlighting contemporary art at the Louvre? It seems like a strange idea, and yet it’s not so peculiar when you bear in mind that this particular event has a history stretching back more than 150 years. The event in question is the Salon des Beaux-Arts, and it takes place in the halls of the Carrousel du Louvre from December 8^th to 11^th. This year once again the greatest international artists meet in this prestigious location and present their works to the public. Sculptures, paintings, engravings and photographs are in the spotlight, and you can meet the artists and discuss with them their artistic vision. Ironically enough, it is close to the foundations of the medieval ramparts of King Philippe Auguste that this exhibition at the cutting edge of contemporary art takes place. Pure lines, flamboyant colours, wood, metal; all kinds of media and techniques are represented. Some 600 artists from all over the world, including China, Brazil and Hungary, are in attendance to reveal the latest developments on the international art scene. This show is a must for art enthusiasts but also great for those who are simply curious about contemporary art. You can also attend the awards ceremony, followed by a concert. This is a universe entirely dedicated to artistic creativity, installed in a breath-taking setting that has been designed this year by the scenographer Bruno Moinard.

From artistic magic to Christmas magic

After art has carried you off into a universe of creativity, it will be time to continue your journey in regions that are chillier, but imbued with their own breathless magic. The Champs-Élysées Christmas village welcomes you from November 11^th to January 8^th, 2017. Over 180 charming little wooden chalets, brimming with decorations, toys, handicrafts and tasty local specialities, await you, along with gorgeous illuminations, amusements for the kids and an open-air skating rink. The various regions of France are represented, including Provence, Corsica and Alsace. Russia, Norway and Canada are also present and offer their crafts and foods for your delectation. Aside from the largest ephemeral skating rink in France, the Champs-Élysées Christmas village also boasts a slide and numerous rides. You can even explore the market comfortably while seated in the little train that runs through the aisles. Stay there until the evening and see the exquisite illuminations light up the world’s loveliest avenue.
